Whiplash

Whiplash is a very common injury that can affect anyone. Whiplash occurs most frequently during motor vehicle accidents. Symptoms of a whiplash can include:

  • Pain and stiffness in the neck and shoulder region.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain, tingling or numbness in the arms.

  • Dizziness

  • Ringing in the ears.

  • Distress associated with pain or loss of movement

  • Difficulty sleeping

Usually imaging (such as Xray or MRI) are not indicated and gentle movement and exercise are the best courses of action. Most importantly...DO NOT PANIC! Stiffness and pain do not mean damage has occurred and it is usually a response of your nervous system indicative of initiating a healing response. Physiotherapy can be helpful to restore normal movement, assist with managing pain, and initiate a graduated load program to get you back to your normal self (or better!). Contact us if you need help following this type of injury!
