Exercise Physiology.

At Elite Physio & Exercise, we know that regular exercise is part of managing your health and wellbeing. That’s why we often use individualised exercises as part of your treatment plan because it’s perfect for a wide range of conditions across all age groups.

What is exercise physiology?

Exercise physiology is aimed at either improving or maintaining your health using a set of customised exercises. Exercise physiologists have the knowledge, skills and experience to develop and deliver a safe and individualised exercise plan to patients suffering a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to the following.

  • Heart disease.

  • Diabetes.

  • Asthma.

  • Arthritis.

  • Osteoporosis.

  • Cystic Fibrosis.

  • Rehabilitation after surgery.

  • Rehabilitation after a stroke.

  • Balance and falls prevention.

  • Elderly strength and conditioning.

  • Mental health.

  • Cancer rehabilitation.

  • Teenager strength and conditioning.

Who can benefit from exercise physiology?

Teenagers can benefit from exercise physiology by building up their fitness, strength, conditioning, coordination and balance, as well as prevent injuries and improve their confidence and sports performance. Elderly people can benefit by improving their gait, balance, coordination and muscle strength, giving them confidence to participate more fully in social activities.

Anyone who has suffered a work related or a sports injury will also benefit from exercise physiology. Your exercise plan is designed to help you prevent the recurrence of your injury and hasten your return to work or participation in your favourite sport, as quickly and as safely as possible.

What to expect at your first appointment

Your exercise physiologist takes a comprehensive history of all the information that’s relevant to your current condition. You’ll discuss what you hope to achieve from your exercise plan, as well as the types of exercise that will help to achieve your goals. Once your exercise physiologist has developed your exercise plan, together you’ll assess your progress and make any changes needed to optimise your health and wellness.
